Enshrined deity at Hachiman Shrine is Honda wake no mikoto, the posthumous title of the Emperor Ojin. This program shows how the deity protects parishioners from various misfortunes falling on them and how much parishioners are grateful to the deity. This program is always dedicated at Hachiman Shrine performance.
One character in this program is Kadomaru known for his funny actions. This character represents a human in contrast with the deity. Another character in this program is a demon, Dairokuten Akumaou. This is believed to characterize Buddhist demon. Buddhist demon in Shinto dance shows syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism in Japanese history.
